Are you dreaming of an intimate elopement in Northern Virginia? You’re in the right place! Keep reading for The Best Places to Elope in Northern Virginia! This blog is perfect for couples who want to skip the big wedding and celebrate their love in a way that’s personal, meaningful, and oh-so-beautiful. From charming historic landmarks to lush parks and scenic vineyards, this region offers something for every kind of vibe—whether you're drawn to more rustic charm, modern elegance, or natural scenery.

1. Great Falls Park

If you love nature and dramatic landscapes, Great Falls Park in McLean is a fantastic choice. With its powerful waterfalls and rugged cliffs along the Potomac River, it’s a spectacular spot for an elopement. The park offers numerous scenic spots for a ceremony, providing a stunning natural backdrop for your photos. I’ve shot a few engagement sessions here and I know an elopement would be absolutely breathtaking!

Great Falls has dramatic waterfalls, scenic trails, natural beauty. It’s the perfect spot for adventurous couples who love the outdoors. Be sure to contact the National Park Service to secure any necessary permits for your ceremony and for photography, I can’t do my job unless you have the right permits. I would also say that early mornings or weekdays are best to avoid crowds here, and ensure your chosen spot is accessible for you and any guests. There’s a lot of hills at this park and the walkability isn’t the best I’ve seen so be sure to figure out a backup plan for guests who need more help.

2. Sky Meadows State Park

Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane, Virginia offers rolling pastures, woodlands, and historic buildings. This park provides a quite and beautiful setting that’s perfect for an intimate elopement. The beautiful vistas and peaceful atmosphere make for some truly memorable photos. You’ll love it for the peaceful landscapes, historic charm, wide open spaces. If you’re wanting to know how to plan your elopement here you’ll need to contact the park office for any necessary permits for your ceremony, and for photography. I can’t do my job unless you have the right permits! One of my favorite spots here is the historic Mount Bleak House! Be sure to check if you need to book any park facilities in advance for a more comfortable experience.

3. Morven Park

Located in Leesburg, Virignia, Morven Park is a historic estate with lush gardens, elegant lawns, and stunning architecture. The beautifully manicured grounds and historic charm make it a romantic spot for your elopement. One of my favorite things about this venue are the classic black and white checkered floors! They are breathtaking, and this venue offers a blend of elegance and intimacy, perfect for capturing timeless moments. Make sure you contact Morven Park to check availability and book your date. I’m not 100% what their protocol is for elopements, but I know their normal photo sessions must have a ‘free’ permit that can be booked online, but for an elopement, it might be different. Make sure you speak to someone directly. Ensure all necessary permissions are secured.

4. Bluemont Vineyard

For those who love vineyards, Bluemont Vineyard in Bluemont, Virginia offers breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This location combines the rustic charm of a vineyard with the natural beauty of the mountains, making it a perfect spot for a romantic elopement. The golden hour here is simply magical for photos. Elopements here are also VERY affordable, so that’s a big plus in my book! I hear that they are often booked up for the current year so the sooner the better it is to contact them to reserve your date once you’ve decided on eloping! Consider incorporating a private wine tasting into your celebration, and be sure to plan around the vineyard’s events and harvest schedule for a quieter experience, the fall is a busy time there!

5. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia is an enchanting spot for an elopement. With 95 acres of ornamental gardens, lakes, and walking trails, it’s a beautiful and serene location. The Korean Bell Garden and various flower gardens provide a vibrant and colorful backdrop for your special day. Contact Meadowlark Botanical Gardens for permit requirements and fees. Make sure you visit the gardens during the time of year you’d like to have your elopement and explore the gardens to choose your favorite ceremony spot, and have a backup plan in case of rain, such as using one of the garden’s covered areas, there’s plenty to choose from!
