My passion for inclusive photography stems from personal experiences and a recognition of the importance of representation. As a queer black woman, I remember growing up watching mainstream media and feeling like there was nobody who looked like me… ANYWHERE.
Even from a young age, the glaring lack of diverse narratives in the media stood out to me—and unfortunately, that’s still the case today. This fueled my determination to challenge norms and create a space where all love, life, and stories would be honored!
When I entered the world of weddings, I quickly noticed a familiar pattern: the representation of only heteronormative, white relationships, and the exclusion of anything (read: everything) else.
Where were the diverse, inclusive love stories I knew and valued? When did gendered language and exclusionary traditions become the norm, and how could I break out of those restrictive confines?!
Ultimately, my "why" as a wedding photographer is about more than just taking pictures: it's about fostering connections with my clients, promoting acceptance, and celebrating love in all its beautiful and diverse forms.
It's about creating a legacy of inclusivity and representation that will inspire future generations to love boldly, live authentically, and embrace the beauty of diversity.
My job isn’t to change who you are, how you look, or how you love for the sake of the “perfect photo”; it’s to create a fun, relaxed, and safe space that helps you overcome that dreaded fear of feeling awkward or unseen in front of the camera.
Because that, my friends, is the only way I can give you an experience that leaves you feeling proud of how your love was documented, and deeply connected to your photos. After all, isn’t the whole goal here that you feel CELEBRATED and fully, wholly yourselves on your wedding day?!
Smiling for so long that your face hurts
The way I can’t help but get emotional photographing first-time parents
That “oh my god, I can’t believe this is actually happening!!” kind of feeling
Queer joy & love stories
Getting film back after all the anticipation
The warm sun on my face on a fall day
a steaming hot seafood boil on a summer day
“We had the BEST experience with Kay! From the moment we met her, her energy was so warm, fun, and calming, exactly what we needed since we are definitely not photo people. What truly amazed us was how effortlessly she turned our awkwardness into pure magic. Our photos came out absolutely stunning, better than we could’ve ever imagined. Every shot felt authentic, romantic, and beautifully captured. And the turnaround time? INSANELY fast! We were shocked (in the best way) at how quickly we received our gallery without sacrificing quality.”
