Jackson & Fellya told me their dream location for their couples session was the Library of Congress, and it was an immediate yes from me. 

Not only is this a place full of history and gorgeous architecture, there is just something so romantic about having your engagement or couples photos here.

If you’re getting married soon, please take this as your sign to consider The Library of Congress for your photos. 

We met up in the afternoon, and went inside to take photos right away. The large windows throughout the historic building meant that we had so many options to use natural lighting. Reversely, we also got to play with lots of shadows in our storytelling. 

As a Maryland wedding photographer, I get to take photos in the coolest buildings, and this was definitely up there!

Fellya wore long, fitted satin gown with a deep v neckline and slit up the skirt.

Not only did she look every inch the classic bride, she also matched the tone of the location. It would be really easy to be overpowered in an environment with such grand, historic architecture. But her look fit right in, and complimented the vibe perfectly. 

And I’m not leaving Jackson out of this style applaud! His black and white suit with bowtie provided the perfect anchor point in the photos. It was classy and upscale. And allowed us to really play with the poses of Fellya’s dress (peep that dipped kiss!) because it always gave that visual anchor moment in the pictures. 

Together they were a vision of a bride and groom. Set perfectly against the backdrop of grand arches and sweeping staircases. It was SOO dreamy and romantic!!

So, should you do your engagement photos at The Library of Congress? 

In my book, it’s a resounding yes! 

If you’re wanting romantic. You’re wanting dramatic. That classic vibe!! Then yes, 10000% yes. 

Here’s what you need to know beforehand though! 

• A permit is required! 
• It is a 45 minute permit, but it’s very easy to request (here are the details)
• It’s helpful to work with a photographer who has photographed here before, so you can get the most out of your time 
• Make sure to pick your outfits to compliment the architecture. Simple and understated is usually a good place to start! 

As a Maryland wedding photographer, I love when my couples choose to take photos here. I am so inspired by all the intricate elements of the building. The staircases and balconies and little alcoves by the window. As an artist, what can I say!? It just really speaks to me! 

After Fellya and Jackson’s session, we made sure to take a few photos outdoors on the staircase leading up to The Library of Congress. Not only does this place their photos location-wise, it also gives their gallery some variety. So when they print images for their wedding showers or the big day itself, they’ve got lots of options to pick from.
