When Ayla & Robert first reached out to me about photographing their elopement we went through many different options on locations and finally settled on The Larz Anderson House in Washington DC, I knew it was going to be a great day. They both were so laid-back about their approach, and kept the focus on their little family. They wanted a private celebration at a beautiful & stylish place. Ummmm, sign me up!! 

They said their nuptials on the lawn at The Larz Anderson House.

Under the green trees and warm afternoon sun. Robert’s face when he saw Ayla walking up to them was everything. This sweet family had been anticipating this day for so long. The joy and love was palpable. Their ceremony was very small with just their son and daughters in attendance. The way Alya and Robert included their son with their rings was so touching too. The ceremony was just as much about joining their family together as it was about getting married. And gosh, what a happy day to photograph. I just love love.

If you’re hoping to have a small celebration in DC, doing an elopement at The Larz Anderson House might just be the way to go!

I absolutely love this venue as a Washington DC wedding photographer. 

It’s not just the fact that everywhere you look there are beautiful places to take photos (although… that too). It’s also just the historic architecture and charm surrounding you. It gives the entire day an editorial feeling. 

The venue was built between 1902-1905, and served as a private Winter residence originally. It became a historic landmark in the 90s, and you can now get married there. 10/10 recommend that idea!! 

Ayla and Robert dressed to fit the part too. They both had the best style. Ayla in her short mini dress and long veil with a 60s retro vibe. And Robert in his blue suit to complement her. They honestly made every newlywed portrait feel like it was straight out of a Vogue spread. I honestly could have taken their photos allllll day long. 

After the ceremony, we took a few family photos in the foyer before we started wandering to take their newlywed portraits.

We used the grand sweeping staircase (every photographers dream!!) and played with the window light on the steps. We also got to photograph in the historic library and outdoor verandah. 

I photographed on both film and digital for this elopement. It felt like The Larz Anderson House was just perfect for both mediums. I loved the nostalgic vibe of the film portraits and how it captured their emotions and style of the day. And the digitals told the story of the day really seamlessly too. 

I’ve been doing more and more film work lately, and it’s just something I love delivering to my clients.
