As a black, queer woman in a white, hetero-dominated industry, my mission is to foster inclusivity, diversity, and acceptance across every aspect of my business. I truly believe addressing the lack of diverse narratives in the wedding industry allows ALL love stories to be honored, and makes weddings about authentic connections where couples feel seen and understood!
You just got engaged! (YAY!) You’re looking around for beautiful spots for your photos. As a Maryland wedding photographer, I have taken portraits all up and down the East Coast, and I have a few places that are my favorite. And Georgetown, Washington D.C. fits that bill!
When these two reached out to me to plan their engagement photos, and we settled on this BEAUTIFUL location, I was thrilled. I knew we were going to be wandering old cobblestone streets, and enjoying big large trees everywhere.

For the first half of the session, the bride to be wore the cutest navy dress with an off-white cardigan. And her groom wore a textured polo with navy chinos. Their color palette was perfect for this location because it provided an anchor point in the photos. All while cohesively tying together the colors & textures of the surroundings.
We explored around for the afternoon. Walking down historic streets and seeing old buildings. There were so many places to take photos. I could literally photograph there all day and never get bored!

They shifted into bolder outfits, and I loved the vibe with the city! The groom-to-be wore a red shirt, while his bride kept with the white theme and chose an off the shoulder shirt and black wide leg pants. If you’re looking for a casual fit that still has that elevated “engagement session” look, this outfit combo was great!
We explored more streets in the area, making sure to stop and enjoy the towering trees and historic landmarks.
The best part? You can incorporate several of these spots into one engagement session without having to travel across the city!

Absofreakinglutely!! Especially, if you have flexibility with your schedule, and can steal away for a weekday morning. Or an early sunrise session. (Georgetown is a popular neighborhood, so it can sometimes be a little crowded midday on the weekends).
Spring and fall are especially beautiful if you’re considering what season to book. Spring brings fresh greenery and flowers, while fall adds those gorgeous warm tones that look incredible against Georgetown’s historic brick buildings.
Summer can be lovely too, but expect more foot traffic and warmer temperatures. Winter is another great option if you love a quieter, more understated look. Basically?? Georgetown can do no wrong in my book! haha
Georgetown is a walking location, so bring comfortable shoes! Those cobblestone streets are adorable, but they aren’t exactly best friends with high heels.
I’d also recommend keeping your route relatively simple. There are so many cute spots to explore that it’s easy to underestimate how much time you’ll spend walking.
If you’re newly engaged and looking for quintessential East Coast locations, this is a spot I would definitely add to your list for consideration!
