Winter Engagement Photos at Susquehanna State Park

There’s no better way to wrap up the year than by spending the day before New Year’s Eve capturing Tiffany and Tyler’s love! Keep scrolling to see the highlights from their stunning Winter Engagement Session at Susquehanna State Park.

When Tiffany and I first started planning the engagement session she knew she wanted something in Harford County for sure, which was great for me because that’s where I grew up and I know all the best spots to take photos at! Once we settled on Susquehanna State Park, it was just the matter of figuring out the vibe for the photos.Tiffany and I spoke back and forth several times, and she sent me photos of outfits and the vibe she was going for and we brought it to life beautifully! This is great inspiration for couples who want an outdoor engagement photos in the winter, but are worried about how everything would come together! It was just so perfect and honestly really easy to plan and decide what areas of the park worked best this time of year.

Tyler & tiffany’s winter engagement session

I met Tyler and Tiffany through Tiffany’s brother, actually! Last year, I had the pleasure of photographing Jordan and Molly’s engagement and wedding. You can check out their engagement session blog, ‘Cromwell Valley Park Engagement’ here, and their wedding blog, ‘Romantic & Rustic Stone Ridge Hollow Wedding,' here! Their family is so much fun and incredibly sweet—I had an amazing time meeting and celebrating with them. When Tiffany and Tyler asked me to capture their wedding day, I was beyond honored and thrilled! They’re tying the knot this July, and I can’t wait to celebrate with them!

The location

Once Tiffany and Tyler settled on Susquehanna State Park as their location I started doing the research and backend work to prep before the photo session. I usually start by making sure no permits or fees are necessary, but because this location has been verified in my private location guide for my couples, I already knew we wouldn’t run into those issues! Then I went ahead and chose certain parts of the park for us to shoot at, or that I knew would be good for this time of year and for the style of photos I knew they had in mind! Then, a week before the session I visited in person and scouted and made sure I liked what I knew I would from online. Then I sent Tiffany and Tyler photos and video clips to confirm that they were also good with the location, normally I wouldn’t do this extra step but because we are in the depths of winter here in Maryland and they had never been to this location before, I wanted to certain it worked for them!

I got to Susquehanna about thirty-five minutes early and made sure to scope out the areas I previously scouted to confirm them working for that day, the park was mostly empty so I knew we’d be good! I’d say that if you’re taking photos here during busy season I would recommend coming during the week, it tends to be a little busier during the weekends. Susquehanna State Park is open every day from sunrise to sunset, so you’ve got plenty of time to explore the beauty it offers! The Deer Creek Picnic Area is open from 9 a.m. to sunset during the warmer months (April to October), and from 10 a.m. to sunset when it’s a bit chillier (November to March). Whether you're hiking, picnicking, or just soaking in the views, you’ll have plenty of time to make the most of your visit! Just a heads up, some activities may be allowed outside regular hours, so it's always a good idea to call ahead at (410) 557-7994 for any specific info!

For Tyler and Tiffany's engagement session, we kicked things off at the charming Historic Village area, where we strolled through the surroundings! This spot is one of my favorites, especially in the fall when it’s surrounded by the vibrant changing trees—it's like stepping into a real-life postcard with all the stunning color changes! Another bonus about this location—I never have any phone service issues, even though you’re pretty deep into the woods!

The outfits

Tiffany totally nailed the styling for these photos! I still remember getting her text saying, ‘fur coat vibes,’ and I was absolutely obsessed—she brought the glam! Her and Tyler coordinated so well with the neutral tones! Tiffany’s dress is a perfect example how you can wear a pattern and it doesn’t clash or stand out too much, it just gives the perfect touch!

Champagne Pop 🍾🥂

It wouldn’t be a Sharp Impressions engagement session if we didn’t end the day with popping some bubbly! Every couple that books me as their wedding photographer gets a complimentary engagement session included in their package and with that comes a complimentary bottle of champagne(if you drink of course, and if not I provide non-alcoholic bubbly!) and matching champagne flutes, yours to keep! You can choose to pop the bottle at the end of our time together or take it home and share it together to celebrate privately, either way it’s a great time!
